Finding The Humor In Life|A Place for Laughs|Poetry|Humorous Stories…

After watching a couple of WP training videos on YouTube, I decided to go all out and get my own domain name. It is: ronyaroshauthor.com

R. Yarosh is the name on all my cartoons which have been posted.

I’m still not sure how to set up and use the various widgets/plug-ins on my dashboard. I guess that will develop as I play around with the WP site. It seems to be a somewhat steep learning curve. I’m not familiar with sites such as Goodreads, Delicious, Flickr, Meta, etc. But, the blog teachers on-line say those widgets are necessary.

I’ll just have to visit them and see what goes. Each one of those has its own learning curve. But hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

My overall goal is to have a number of ebooks published in the months to come. I have several projects under way at this point. In addition, if anyone is interested, in the future I’d like to offer some information in this blog about writing humor.

When I think about it, humor has always played a large part of my life. As far back as I can remember, I always enjoyed a good joke, gag, or pun. At the risk of revealing my age, I grew up watching comedians such as Milton Berle, Bob Hope, Jackie Gleason, Sid Caesar, Shelly Berman, Bob & Ray, Henny Youngman, Jack Benny, Jerry Lewis, The Marx Brothers, Abbott and Costello, and so many more. You youngsters out there probably never heard of most of those comic geniuses. I think a lot of the shows are still in re-runs, or on DVDs, so you can catch up if you like.

Later, I listened to, or watched, Steve Allen, Bob Newheart, Jonathan Winters, Jackie Mason, Mort Sahl, Mel Brooks, and Carl Reiner. They were later replaced by Woody Allen, Robert Klein, Bill Cosby, George Carlin, Steve Martin, Robin Williams, and a host of others.

And, there was the weekly crop of comedy hour/variety shows on TV. I never missed Ed Sullivan, Laugh In, The Smothers Brothers, The Carol Burnette Show, SNL (the early shows).

I can’t forget to mention (not necessarily in chronological order), some of my favorite wacky weekly TV shows. They were I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Get Smart, Hogan’s Heros, The Munsters,The Addams Family, (I actually had cousin,”IT”), Dobie Gillis, Gilligan’s Island, Bewitched, I Dream of Genie, Police Squad, MASH, My Favorite Martian, Green Acres, Seinfeld, Dinosaurs, The Muppets, 3rd Rock, MST3K, Arrested Development, and so many more, it would take a few more posts to list them all. A lot of them are compiled on a site called DMOZ.

I can’t go on without mentioning some of my all time British favorites. I suggest, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Fawlty Towers, Good Neighbors, One Foot in the Grave, Wallace and Gromit, Shaun The Sheep to name a few.

There are to many great comedy movies to list here, but I will again mention my favorites (not in any particular order,) We have, Most of the Monty Python flicks, Groundhog Day, Airplane, Harvey, Arsenic and Old Lace, Love and Death (all early Allen films), Young Frankenstein, The Producers, Sherlock Holmes’ Younger Brother, both Ghost Busters, Animal House, The Princess Bride, Caddy Shack, Dumb and Dumber, Harold and Maude, A Christmas Story, The Blues Brothers, All Marx Brothers Flicks, Spaceballs, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, The Jerk, Edward Scissorhands, Best in Show, Ratatouille, Monsters Inc. All the Muppet movies.

My family and I are constantly quoting lines from movies, and TV shows. I’m sure a lot of you do the same thing. But that’s a subject for a future blog post, maybe even a quiz or  two.

I hope I wasn’t too wordy today. Once I get going, it’s hard to stop.

Thanks to all who are following this blog.

Glad you got the domain name instead of just using the WordPress address. And if you need any help with working in WordPress let me know.
