Crafty QR Codes Confound Crooks

There’s a lot of counterfeiting of goods and currencies going on these days. Scientists are working on ways to counter act the counterfeiters.

They have upgraded QR codes to help in that effort.

Quick Response (QR) codes are applied to products and advertising, and are found just about everywhere.

QRs are those little, funny looking squares with smudges on them usually found on the corners.

New codes have been developed which will hamper the efforts of the counterfeiters of profitable products and even money.

You will be able to scan them with a smart phone and go to the company’s web site to determine if they are the real thing.

Hmmm…

QR codes are now on the scene.

To crooks that really is mean.

They won’t capture the codes,

To steal mother loads.

But smart phones can, isn’t that keen?

Battery Blues Brings Brilliant Breakthrough

According to the web site Mail online http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2286714/

There is a battery breakthrough that could charge your iPhone in five SECONDS.

It’s a Graphene-based supercapacitor that can charge and discharge thousand times faster than conventional batteries.

Researchers stated that prototypes of the charger can be produced using a standard DVD burner.

The battery that can charge a mobile phone or even a car in seconds.

Called micro-scale graphene-based supercapacitors, the devices can charge and discharge a hundred to a thousand times faster than standard batteries.

It’s made from a layer of carbon, only one-atom thick. It can be manufactured and integrated into your gadgets.

Hmmm…

A battery than can charge super fast,

A quick charging miracle at last.

It’s made from Graphene,

Right on your machine.

It can make your device a real blast.

Password Protection Produces Potential Problems

This came from ABC News.com found at: http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/technolog/anyone-can-bypass-your-iphones-passcode-some-practice-required-1C8377251

It may take practice, as well as some really great timing, but anyone with the knowledge, and a little practice can bypass your iPhone’s pass code to make calls.

They can also send out emails and messages, scroll through your call history, view (and edit) your contact information.

This (hacking) was done with an  iPhone 5 as well as an iPhone 4.

Both devices were running iOS 6.1, with  the very latest update. That update seems to be at the center of the vulnerability.

An Apple spokesperson said they were aware of the problem and would find a fix as soon as possible.

You can read more on the link above.

Hmmm….

You iPhone is vulnerable now,

Anyone can show you how,

To bypass your secret code,

And find the mother load,

Of contacts and calls that were made,

Even with Apple’s upgrade.

They’re working to find a fast fix,

To overcome the hackers new tricks.

Let’s hope they find one fast,

Before someone discovers your past.

Sneaky Smartphone Spyware Snoops

According to CNBC, http://www.cnbc.com/id/100431624 there is a new Android App out there disguised as a “Droid Cleaner”.

It can attack your smart phone and your PC.

Once installed on your device, it can spy on you.

The malware was discovered by the Kaspersky security company.

The app which is found in the Google Play app store, is touted as a tool to free up memory in Google’s operating system.

It can also find its way into a PC as well if users plug an infected device into a PC with a USB drive.

The bug takes over the microphone on a PC and uses it to eavesdrop on users. When a sound is picked up by the mike it records the audio and sends it to the cyber criminals.

However, if a user has a current version of Microsoft Windows the malware should not get into the PC.

Apparently, the spy junk is only targeting older versions of Windows. The PC attack is really focused at users that are using older versions of Microsoft Windows.

The spyware can do the following in an infected device:

  • Sending SMS messages
  • Enabling Wi-Fi
  • Gathering information about the device
  • Opening arbitrary links in a browser
  • Uploading the SD card’s entire contents
  • Uploading all SMS messages
  • Deleting all SMS messages
  • Uploading all the contacts/photos/coordinates from the device master.

Hmmm…

There’s an app that spies thru your phone,

It’s a sneaky thing like an air drone.

It uploads your stuff,

And if that’s not enough,

It won’t leave your PC alone.

Smartphone Storage Specialists Succeed

I just discovered this tidbit. I thought I’d share it with you.

New York school kids are not allowed to bring their precious smart phones to school.

They are now paying “Phone Valets” a dollar to keep their phones for a day.

It’s a great new business for the phone keepers.

It’s Valet Phone Parking.

Isn’t capitalism great?

Hmmm…

School kids are all using valets,

To store their cell phones for the day.

It costs them a dollar,

Not much for a caller,

When there’s a will there’s a way.

Security Schmucks Shock Shocked Shopper

A 44 year old woman was tased when she apparently resisted arrest at a New Hampshire Apple Store.

She wanted to buy more IPhones than the store allowed.

The store had a limit of two.

She supposedly had five phones (and sixteen thousand dollars) in her possession to buy IPhones for her family members in China.

The woman only spoke Chinese which added to the confusion.

How do you say law suit in Chinese?

I guess the poor soul forgot the wise words of Confucius who said, “When buying IPhones, stick to the limit or electric wires will stick to you.”

Hmmm…

An Apple store patron was tased,

Her eyes were all runny and glazed,

She had too many phones,

She made many low moans,

The family is rightly amazed.

Texter’s Terrible Timing Turns Into Tumble

A woman fell off a 60 foot cliff while texting.

She suffered multiple injuries as a result.

I think she also fractured her reputation.

Too bad she didn’t have a jet pack smart phone app.

Then again, she probably wouldn’t have thought of using it.

We are not sure who she was texting at the time. It might have been her Guardian Angel.

Hmmm…

A text-er fell off a cliff,

She’s lucky that she’s not a stiff,

A sixty foot fall,

While making a call,

It’s something that we can all riff.

Texting Teen Tried

An 18 year old became the first driver in Massachusetts to be convicted of motor vehicle homicide by texting.

According to the Associated Press the boy has been sentenced to two years in prison and loss of his driver’s license for 15 years. (I think he should have lost his license forever.)

The family of the man killed will be husband and fatherless forever. It’s a sad situation.

Hmmm…

A kid got into a collision.

Texting interfered with  his vision.

He killed a poor man,

Something he didn’t plan,

Now he has been driven to prison

Cellular Creates Congo Calls

RassomStar is an African telecommunications company.

They are looking to bring cellular phoning to the Congo.

They are using tiny access nodes to make calls in the rain forest.

I hope Tarzan, Jane, Cheetah, Jungle Boy, and George of the Jungle all have cell phones.

Hmmm…

The Congo has now going mobile.

A gesture that’s really quite noble.

Call up a chimp,

Or a lion with a limp,

Africa’s is finally going global.

Update To Prior Post RE: Great Blogs to Follow

I was reminded of something by John The Aussie,  http//sleepinginsomniacs.wordpress.com.

I didn’t make the web addresses for the two great blogs I recommended yesterday into proper hyperlinks for those followers who read blogs via their phones.

Sorry about that my Mobile Techno-friends.

Traveling With Teddy is at   http://travelingwithteddy.com/

I Love BritishTV is at  http://ilovebritishtv.com

Let’s hope this works.
